I am making a short film (16mm) that will contain both b&w and color images. 1) Will this contrast create a problem when i get it transfered onto video? and what format 1/2, 3/4 should i use in order to limit generation loss?

Yes, it will cause you a problem. You will have to have the film transferred as seperate rolls, which will be a bit more expensive. Be sure that you specify that the rolls are of different stock, otherwise your color footage may end up B&W. 3/4 will handle several generations without much loss (up to 7 or 8 with new tape stock and clean deck heads). 1/2" won't even do one generation very well.
